Ultrasound scans

An ultrasound scan is a painless test that uses sound waves to create images of organs and structures inside your body. As it uses sound waves and not radiation it is thought to be harmless.
Ultrasound can be used to visualise structures in your abdomen and pelvis, an unborn child (antenatal scan), other organs or joints. To find out more about ultrasound visit the NHS choices website

If you require a scan your doctor will refer you either to St George's Hospital or to the InHealth Diagnostic Services.
